How I managed to clean my house and take care of my babyCleaning with a baby

Have you ever wondered how some mothers always seems to be put together, have a sparkling clean house with carpet lines, look so well rested, and overall in control? I know I have as I just could never seem to do it all. Oh, I tried so hard but all I seemed to do is make myself beyond the point of exhaustion that it was hard to function some days. I would take care of my son all day then when he took his naps tried to clean up some but did majority of my cleaning once he was in bed. I would be up till 3 in the morning trying to get those carpet lines all for them to disappear by morning.

A hard lesson to learn

It was a hard lesson to learn but one I finally did. There was just no way for me to be the perfect mom and house wife who was always put together. I was exhausted and when I am exhausted I am super moody. Which is kind of funny since it seems I am always exhausted for one reason or another. I just knew I had to come up with a plan for my house to get cleaned, baby A taken care of, and for me to get some well needed sleep.

A mom with a solution

It was time for me to go to bed at a decent hour and not stay up all night cleaning. I just kept thinking about how it would be so much easier if I could just clean during the day but how would that be possible with Baby A able to crawl. Then it hit me I had several solutions and tools I could use but was not utilizing them.

My tools and solutions

  1. The baby carrier
    1. I have no idea why I didn’t think about it before after all that is what they were made for. When I needed to sweep or mop I just had to strap him in his baby carrier and off we go. It also worked great for when I was dusting or vacuuming.
  2. High chair
    1. This one should have been a given. I just never thought about it and would just try to hold him while I was wiping down the counters and table.
    2. Once I did start utilizing the high chair it made cleaning up the kitchen so much easier and faster. I could give him his little baby snacks pull the high chair up to the sink and wash the dishes while he was content just snacking and wondering what I was doing.
  3. Playpen
    1. I rarely put Baby A in his play pen besides for naps. I just didn’t really want to move it to another room as it had to be broken down to fit through the door. What I did find it useful for was when I needed to make the bed and fold the laundry. I could just stick him in the playpen with some rattles, turn on some music, and get to folding.

Once he was in bed for the night I could finish the rest of my cleaning such as the bathrooms. Since I bleach the bathrooms that was not something I wanted him to be around so was unable to do it with him awake but I saved several hours by doing everything else while he was awake and happy.

Another tip which is also educational is to tell your baby what you are doing. I know seems crazy they probably won’t even understand what folding the clothes or doing the dishes even means. At least so we think. Babies are a lot smarter than we give them credit for and keep a lot more than we think. It is fun to talk to them and educational as well. I always tell Baby A what I am doing whether washing dishes, making dinner, or paying bills. One day he will ask and understand until then at least he is learning something even if we don’t think they are.

So, when trying to clean with your baby remember 1. Nobody is perfect. One day you will have carpet lines but now there are far more important things. 2. Utilize the things you have after all that is what you bought them for. 3. You’re a great mom and your baby loves you for who you are.
